Grenelefe

Seawall Project Completed

Weeks 18 & 19 008
Today Rob Robertson, the project director for the Grenelefe Estates seawall project informed me that the construction of the new seawall is finished.  I've enjoyed watching the work progress over the past few months.

I was very much impressed with the work of the four men from the  Waterfront Engineering company that were here almost every day.  They were very competent in the many different aspects of building the seawall and they worked long hours and very hard in this summer's extremely hot weather.

And, Rob, an engineer, who volunteered his services, served us well by overseeing the seawall project from beginning to end.

This also completes my blog on the seawall's construction.

During the past two weeks, the Waterfront Engineering crew has been putting fill sand in behind the new seawall. The bottom photo is the South seawall. Sod will be placed on top of the fill dirt.  The crew also is beginning the process of repairing the areas where installation work damaged lawns.  (More pictures in the Photo Album labeled Weeks 18 & 19.)

Seawall Project Nearing Landscaping Phase

The Waterfront Engineering crew is getting closer to the end of the new Abbey Lake seawall project.  According to Rob Robertson, the homeowners' seawall project director, the filling of crushed concrete between the old and new seawalls should be completed this week.  Next, he reports, topsoil will be used to backfill behind the concrete cap up to the top edge of the cap.  That step will be followed by the placement of sod and the repair of lawns and other areas that were damaged during the process of building the new seawall.  Rob said the unusally wet weather has meant a lot of ruts and damage to lawns by the heavy equipment that was used to complete the project.  He said the resodding and other clean up work is only a week or so away.

In his report to the Grenelefe Estates Homeowners Association board members on the closing days of the project, Rob quoted a line from the song Autumn Leaves: "The days dwindle down to a precious few."

Concrete Cap Completed

Week 15 #1 022
Today (Tuesday, August 31) the Waterfront Engineering crew completed the concrete cap on the new South seawall which competes all the concrete work on the new seawall around Abbey Lake.  After the concrete has cured for a few days, the forms and braces will be removed.  Next steps include the installation of well points, drains, and filling crushed concrete between the old and new seawalls.  Then the area behind the new seawall will be backfilled and grass put down.  (More pictures of today's concrete pour can be seen in the Photo Album on the right labeled Fifteenth Week Progress.)
