Danny Anseeuw, president of Waterfront Engineering, Inc., explains to your photographer the next steps in the process of building the new seawall around Abbey Lake. He and Eduardo (behind Danny), the on-site working foreman, are checking the rebar which will reinforce the concrete cap. After the front upright forms have been placed, similar forms will be placed on the opposite side of the pilings.
After the county has inspected the work done to date, concrete will be poured in the first section of the East sewall. This could be as early as this Friday, according to the contractor. The cap will essentially form a beam on top of the new seawall pilings. The portion of the anchor rods secured to the seawall pilings also will be encased within the concrete cap.
After the concrete has been poured and set, the forms will be removed, including the bottom forms. Crushed concrete will be used to fill the space between the new and old seawall. Anseeuw said the crushed concrete would be mixed with water. After the fill is complete, dirt will be used to cover the filled area from the cap back onto the homeowners' property and grass planted.
