The Waterfront Engineering crew is getting closer to the end of the new Abbey Lake seawall project. According to Rob Robertson, the homeowners' seawall project director, the filling of crushed concrete between the old and new seawalls should be completed this week. Next, he reports, topsoil will be used to backfill behind the concrete cap up to the top edge of the cap. That step will be followed by the placement of sod and the repair of lawns and other areas that were damaged during the process of building the new seawall. Rob said the unusally wet weather has meant a lot of ruts and damage to lawns by the heavy equipment that was used to complete the project. He said the resodding and other clean up work is only a week or so away.
In his report to the Grenelefe Estates Homeowners Association board members on the closing days of the project, Rob quoted a line from the song Autumn Leaves: "The days dwindle down to a precious few."
